The Communication and Symbolic Behavior Scales Developmental Profile Infant/Toddler Checklist (CSBS-DP) is secure form designed to identify different aspects of development in infants and toddlers. Many behaviors exhibited before a child speaks may indicate whether or not a child will have difficulty learning to speak. This screener is designed to measure the following 7 language predictors:

  • Emotion and Use of Eye Gaze
  • Use of Communication
  • Use of Gestures
  • Use of Sounds
  • Use of Words
  • Understanding of Words
  • Use of Objects

This checklist is normed for children between the ages of 6 and 24 months to determine whether a referral for an evaluation is needed and should be completed every 3 months. It can also be used as a criterion-referenced measure (for older children) to determine progress in your child’s communicative behaviors.

Children are not necessarily expected to demonstrate all behaviors listed. Please select all the choices which best describes the child’s behavior. If you are not sure, please choose the closest response based on your experience.
